Halvorson campaign warns against "Naz-Tea Party"

Big Government has the story, complete with trailing protesters to a nearby Halvorson campaign office. Protesters carried signs depicting a number of Republicans wearing Hitler 'staches.

The connection of a Halvorson campaign staffer (Julie Merz) to her former role as Nancy Pelosi's deputy director of member services adds a bit of spice to the story.

Pelosi conspicuously maintained that the Tea Party movement was "Astroturf."

  1. Those are my sings, and you better believe I have an agenda. As I have stated in my video response to all this, Kinzinger Doesn't Get It, and it is obvious that the entire Tea Party doesn't get it.

One consistent image keeps popping up at Tea Party rallies all across the country: Obama with a Hitler mustache, along with all the other "Obama is a fascist/socialist" signs. (Yes, sometimes on the same sign!) What the Tea Party doesn't want to answer, and can't debate, is this:

Why is it OK to put a Hitler mustache on Obama and not on Tea Party candidates?

Kinzinger's website calls the signs "distasteful". Where, oh where, is the criticism of their fellow Tea Party members doing the same? It is such a common sight at Tea Party rallies, they cannot, in all seriousness, suggest that those are just one or two rouge members. (Whereas, I am the only one to date suing these signs for Tea Party candidates.) There are possibly hundreds of photos on the web of such pictures and other "distasteful" signs of Obama as Hitler at Tea Party events.

And while even scholars still argue about "what is fascism", there are a few basic concepts that all agree on:

Extreme nationalism – fanatic loyalty to one’s country to the exclusion of all others, "my country right or wrong", often presented by those in the fold as “patriotism”. But patriotism does not require nationalism. A patriot wears a flag pin on his/her lapel. A nationalist criticizes everyone else that does not.

Fear of the “other” – “others” being anyone that is different, be it nationality, race, religion, etc.

Militarism – strong emphasis on military might makes right.

Obviously, Adam Kinzinger, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, etc., are not extreme fascists like an Adolph Hitler. But if they are going to play that card, they are throwing stones in glass houses. And they will have to answer to their own extreme nonsense. If it takes some extreme nonsense to counter their extreme nonsense and draw a little media attention, so be it.

Enough is enough. The Democrats won't defend themselves, and no one in the "news" business is asking the questions. So this is the only way to draw some attention to Tea Party absurdities.

So. Tea Party. Explain, if you can, the difference between Obama with a Hitler mustache and Glenn Beck with a Hitler mustache. The entire country, I'm sure, would welcome an intelligent debate on this topic.

  2. The difference between Barack Obama with a Hitler mustache and Glenn Beck with a Hitler mustache is pretty simple. Barack Obama has political power. Glenn Beck is an entertainer not seeking political power.

But the similarity between the two being portrayed with Hitler mustaches is more important than the difference. It's wrong in both cases.

Debbie Halvorson's campaign should suffer the consequences of pulling such a classless stunt. Halvorson should lose. And any Republican candidate whose campaign pulls a similar stunt with a Democrat who isn't an admitted fascist deserves the same fate (that goes for Lyndon LaRouche).

Congratulations for helping damage the Halvorson campaign.

So, do we have grounds here for a debate or what?
