Ahmadinejad continues to stump for Israel's destruction

"They (world powers) should not think that the Iranian nation and other nations in the region would take off their hands off the throat of the Zionists and their supporters."

Ahmadinejad also reaffirmed his opinion that "Zionists" should move to empty lands in Europe or North America and out of the Middle East entirely.

That quotation in the first paragraph (from Ahmadinejad) flips off the United Nations.

The claim is based on the belief that, as of the original sweep of Islam through the region of Palestine, the land itself belongs under Islamic rule.

By 651 C.E., the last of the Persian emperors had been assassinated. Portions of the Byzantine Empire, notably Syria, Palestine, and Egypt, fell rapidly to the Muslim armies.

... and speaking of Iran

WASHINGTON: The United States is drafting a new sanctions resolution against Tehran, the State Department said Tuesday, just days before a meeting of major powers regarding Iran's controversial atomic aims.

"What we're doing is working on the elements of a resolution. We put down on paper some of those ideas, what it might -- what a resolution might look like," spokesman Sean McCormack said.
(The News)
Iran is a state somewhat more vulnerable to sanctions than Iraq, in that the unrest against the government is more homogeneous than in Hussein-era Iraq.

An effective sanctions regime could help tip that nation, and any change is likely to be an improvement.

On the downside, effective sanctions tend to hit the common folk--the very ones we hope to turn into future allies.

Those naughty Iranians

Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in a Jane's Defence Weekly report that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.

According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.
(Jerusalem Post)
If Ahmadinejad ever gets around to commenting on this one, I'm sure it will turn out that the sarin gas was for peaceful purposes.

Iran is definitely the nation we want to control Iraq.

Khamenei on Bush

TEHRAN: Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Friday that US President George W. Bush had been defeated in his Middle East plans and would one day stand trial for "atrocities" committed in Iraq.

"I have a firm belief that one day this current US president and the American officials will be tried in a fair international court for the atrocities committed in Iraq," he said.

"They have to be held accountable. The United States cannot ignore its responsibility," Khamenei told worshippers, who punctuated his sermon with shouts of "Death to America".

Could be his MoveOn.org membership card is already in the mail.

Overlooking things like Iran's crackdown on its citizens who did unlawful things like dressing immodestly.

And who can forget the human wave tactics employed by Khamenei's predecessors?

Passionate speech by Iranian marionnette Nasrallah

clipped from www.thenews.com.pk

BEIRUT: Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah has criticized a U.S. plan to increase military assistance to Arab countries, accusing Washington of seeking to drown the Middle East in wars.

Nasrallah was referring to a proposed U.S. plan announced earlier this week to sell advanced weaponry worth at least US$20 billion (€15 billion) to Persian Gulf nations and provide new 10-year military aid packages to Israel and Egypt.

"The United States is bringing billions of dollars worth of arms to ignite wars in this region," Nasrallah said in a speech beamed through giant television screens to hundreds of thousands of supporters in eastern Lebanon's city of Baalbek

Russian scientist: Iran should be stopped

Say what?

MOSCOW: Russia’s leading nuclear scientist said on Monday that it was just a question of time before Iran developed a nuclear weapon and it should be stopped.

The Islamic republic, facing a showdown with the United States over its nuclear ambitions, clearly has the know-how to make atomic weapons, said Yevgeny Velikhov, a leading physicist and close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
(The News)
Considering that nobody helped Iran along toward nuclear technology more than Russia (unless we count the USSR separately), that's a terrific observation to make.

I wonder if Putin will have this scientist poisoned for shooting off his mouth?
