Reaching out

I haven't had quite as much time as I'd like to bloghop among liberal blogs. I did happen across one the other day while looking for comments about Iraq Body Count. This group up in the Northwest puts little flags in the ground representing the Iraqi dead according to the Lancet data.

They are apparently convinced that by making this sort of graphic display they can convince the public and politicians to adopt a Vietnamesque endgame strategy in Iraq. Apparently the same type of strategy that ended in the deaths of millions (Cambodia), the flight of millions (the Boat People), the internment of hundreds of thousands (education camps) and the institution of a managed economy that produced untold suffering for decades until Vietnam began to borrow the same capitalist pages that China exploited.

Apparently letting one group of people kill another group of people is the humane thing to do. I'm hoping for one of the group members to engage the conversation enough so that I can at least represent the expected Iraqi future in their own words.

As it stands, I've got the last word.

landsker: Well said. Loss of lives are a heartbreak for any human in this planet. There is another powerful display called Eyes Wide Open that has soldier boots AND civilian shoes representing the loss on the Iraqi side. That display includes woman, children and infant shoes, which makes it real.
You think about Vietnam & how our country had reached the breaking point at 60,000 deaths, and Iraq has sustained well over 600,000 deaths- some reports say over a million have died. Whatever the number, too many have died.

One wonders what would make you think that a U.S. withdrawal would result in a net decrease in Iraqi deaths.
