More on the PolitiFact smear of Senator Kyl

I graded the PolitiFact entry about Kyl's response to an ambiguous allocation of funds for Gaza aid and "relocation." I noted then that the piece assumes without anything approaching sufficient evidence that Sen. Kyle bought into the false rumors regarding that expenditure.

There was more to the PolitiFact smear, however. I probably should have called attention to it in that earlier post. Visiting the PolitiFact site for its latest attempt at fact checking reminded me of the disservice done to readers via the undeserved attacks on Kyl. Take a look at this portion of the main PolitiFact page from today (click to enlarge):

The gist of the story, unfair and unsubstantiated as it was, concerned the possibility that the presidentially allocated funds could be used to bring Gazan Palestinian refugees to the United States. But the main page goes way beyond that.
  • Obama is a Muslim
  • flying "Hamas refugees" to the U.S.
Senator Kyl, according to the impression created by PolitiFact, takes those things seriously. And the accompanying graphic goes even further in amplifying the same imaginary point. To the right side of the box, Obama's order would "buy airline tickets" for the refugees. So the refugees wouldn't even be grouped in a C-130 designated for that purpose. Supposedly tickets would be purchased on their behalf. Coach, I hope.

There's not much of a line to cross between this and the Enquirer tale about the Clintons meeting with space aliens.

Shameful.
