Iraq casualties Feb 2008

It's time again to update the monthly graphs reflecting the numbers produced by Iraq Casualty Count. I don't update promptly at the end of the month because the casualty numbers sometimes change. Case in point, last month's total of coalition troop deaths was 39 according to my graph since that is what ICC was reporting when I collected the information. The total for January will appear as 40 on this month's graph since the information has been updated.

The above graph represents civilian and Iraqi security force deaths. That number increased considerably in relation to the trend since October, but remains substantially below the levels counted prior to the surge and over the first several months of the implementation of the new strategy.

The graph starts in Jan. 06 and ends in Feb. 08 just like the following one.

This graph is better news, for it shows that deaths of coalition troops (including U.S. military) continue to trend downward. Though it is statistically risky to extrapolate, March looks to improve on February based on the numbers so far (one death over the first four days).
