I've added "Eye on the UN," a UN watchdog organization, to a "Links" category below the other link categories. It's not really a blog, so I put it separately.
We seem to somehow forget that the UN as it is organized serves as a grotesque organ of democratic action. Horribly repressive (dare I say "evil"?) regimes get veto power. Nations at the forefront of human rights abuse get to chair committees that deal with human rights. Despite this and the fact that the UN has an infinitesimal record of political success (their organization of relief effort and disease prevention is better, thankfully), many in the West think of the UN as the rubber stamp of international approval. If the UN oversaw it, then it pretty much has to be good.
Use "Eye on the UN" to help keep tabs on UN activity.
The organization is in the midst of a reform effort that may decide its future (as in whether or not the UN has a future).
We may be better off if nations who are essentially like-minded form a more democratic organization to replace the UN.
