A photo in search of context

Search the group of images that Olivier Laban-Mattei shot for Getty Images and you won't find one that looks worse for the U.S. than this one. USA Today used the caption supplied by Getty Images. Looking at the entire collection of images, one receives the impression that the crowd turned disorderly at times. That's understandable for hungry people--but it's also understandable that security forces would react to dangerous actions with warnings backed by the pointing of automatic weapons.

USA Today provides no context for this photo. Thus, the image says "Armed American pointing gun at defenseless Iraqis."
clipped from www.usatoday.com
An U.S. soldier gestures with his squad automatic weapon as Iraqis rush to receive humanitarian aid from the Iraqi Ministry of Trade in Mufrek, 35 miles north of Baghdad. Roadside bomb attacks have killed another four U.S. soldiers in Iraq, a day after four others were killed in the flashpoint city of Baquba.

Well, the Clipmarks format didn't exactly work spectacularly well with my blog format. Click on the link to see the whole photo.
