Reuters, according to YNet News, has admitted having published an improperly altered image of smoking buildings in Beirut. They also removed the image, leaving my earlier post with a useless URL.
Captain's Quarters pointed out the way to Right and Left, where the altered image may be compared to the unaltered original.
I would suspect that somebody played with the image and then that file was accidentally substituted for the original image. The alterations did not radically increase the impact of the image, in my opinion. On the other hand, the photographer who received credit for the photo has been connected to photos which may have been staged.
EU Referendum has that issue covered.
