Five million dollars, eh? I'll assume at that price they've been tested and found effective.

Defensenews.com reports on a $1.4 billion deal for automated gun turrets. Note that Force Protection's Cheetah was used in testing.

CROWS units, which are already on a number of U.S. vehicles, can be fitted on the M1 Abrams tank, Humvee, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle and MRAP such as the RG-31 Mine Protected vehicle. The system can fire the .50-caliber M2 machine gun, Mk 19 grenade launcher and the M240/M249 machine gun.

Kongsberg will make parts for the Army’s CROWS at a plant in Pennsylvania. The company conducted live-fire training operations using Force Protection’s new 7-ton Cheetah vehicle in South Carolina last month.
