Iraqi government keeping pressure on militias and insurgent groups

Iraqi government forces has launched a large-scale military operation dubbed as Bashaer al-Salam (Promise of Peace) to crack down on gunmen, to stop illegal smuggling deals and to main security and stability in the province.
(Aswat Aliraq)
Note the name of the operation ("Promise of Peace"), apparently intended to play up the government's commitment to serve the interests of Iraqis without favoring one group over another. Success in these operations will speak well of the future of a U.S.-friendly Iraq--but because of the weakness of support services for Iraqi security forces (air force, supplies) an American presence will be required for some time.

John McCain will ensure adequate support. Barack Obama has continued to muddy his vision for the Iraq War to the chagrin of his hard left supporters, but offering thin reassurance to supporters of the war effort.
